Two Million Gowns Support Frontline Health Workers Against COVID-19

Share:

While fighters in the past relied on armor to protect them in battle, medical personnel and frontline health workers at public hospitals, government agencies, and NGOs are also being provided with protection from COVID-19.

The increasing number of COVID-19 infections have put frontline health workers at the highest risk of infections. Personnel protective equipment (PPE) is therefore critical in providing much needed protection.

GC is providing continued support and PPE in response to the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. The company initiated the ‘Millions Support… Ensuring a Safe Space for All’ project to deal with the current wave. Previously, GC together with its partners, provided 420,000 pieces of PPE under the Greater Care by GC brand. This time around, GC is providing two million pieces of PPE to public hospitals and government agencies nationwide to help curb COVID-19 infections.

The PPE sets being provided are not the ordinary variety having been designed using GC’s plastic molding innovations to provide the maximum benefits. GC and its partners produced PPE in two categories:

  • PE Gown: GC partnered with Thai Hospital Products Co., Ltd. to produce disposable PE gowns made of high-quality polyethylene (PE) plastic resins, designed by GC to be lightweight, comfortable to wear, breathable, robust, and flexible. The gowns can protect, when worn, from secretions and were designed to be flexible. After being used, the gown can be easily torn facilitating disposal and reducing exposure and the risk of infection.
  • Coverall: GC collaborated with Thai Taffeta Co., Ltd. to produce coveralls made from 100% PET (rPET) recycled plastic resins in Thailand. One coverall is made from 18 PET water bottles, demonstrating how waste can be circulated effectively, and comes with a polytetrafluorethylene coating providing a perfect barrier to hydrostatic pressure. It can be cleaned and reused up to 20 times (Level-2 PPE), and was produced in accordance with ANSI/AAMI PB70 standards.

The advanced properties in the PE gowns and coveralls provide important protection to doctors and frontline health workers when worn and performing medical treatments to patients.

Agencies interested in receiving PE gowns as part of the “Millions Support… Ensuring a Safe Space for All” project can make a request at: https://forms.gle/iQSFp1GypMQeF7R46

Most importantly, the purpose of ‘Ensuring a Safe Space for All’ by GC goes beyond providing two million pieces of PPE. This initiative outlines a protective infrastructure through plastic innovations, together with a comprehensive plan to reduce the dependence on imports through affordable locally produced raw materials and the domestic development of plastic innovations and production with no long-term environmental impacts. This effort meets our goal of achieving ‘Chemistry for Better Living’ to substantially improve people’s lives.
