The SET Awards ceremony has been co-organized by the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) and Money & Banking Magazine since 2003, and aims to recognize the quality of listed companies and highlight the competitiveness of the business sector in Thai capital markets. This year’s SET Awards 2019 ceremony, held on November 26, 2019 at the SET, was all the more special as the “SET Sustainability Awards” were added to honor companies that continuously deliver on excellence in sustainability and who live by their social and environmental values.

This year, PTT Global Chemical Plc, or GC, a leading chemical company committed to improving quality of life and conducting its operations in line with the principles of the Circular Economy, was rated number one in the world for sustainability in the 2019 Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI) in the chemicals industry group, and ranked among the top 10 companies in the chemicals sector for the seventh consecutive year. The company also demonstrated its positive impact and performance by winning three awards at the SET Awards 2019 ceremony including the SET Sustainability Award of Honor, Investor Relations Award and inclusion on the Thailand Sustainability Investment (THSI) list.

GC, represented by Dr. Kongkrapan Intarajang, Chief Operating Officer - Upstream Petrochemical Business, was awarded with the SET Sustainability Award of Honor 2019 for the third consecutive year. This award underscores the company’s commitment to incorporating sustainability throughout its business practices while extending positive benefits throughout society. For instance, GC has continuously initiated social and environmental support activities that promote the principles of the Circular Economy. In building on its previous achievements, which have brought significant benefits to Thailand together with domestic and international recognition, GC continues to implement innovative initiatives by partnering with both the public and private sectors, and communities. One example is the ‘Upcycling the Oceans, Thailand’ project which began in 2017 and involves GC, together with the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), and the ECOALF Foundation from Spain. The project’s goal is to mitigate the problem of marine plastic waste in Thailand and rehabilitate the country’s oceans. GC was also recognized as a Partner for Sustainability at the recent ASEAN Summit 2019 and provided “Upcycling by GC” souvenirs made from recycled plastic.

In addition, GC was granted two prestigious accolades including Investor Relations (IR) Awards 2019 which are given to companies that demonstrate excellent performance in implementing IR programs. GC was represented by Duangkamol Settanung, Executive Vice President-Finance & Accounting. The company was also selected for inclusion on the Thailand Sustainability Investment (THSI) list for the fifth consecutive year (2015-2019), and was represented by Chaya Chandavasu, Senior Vice President – Sustainability and Corporate Branding. These announcements showcase listed companies with an outstanding performance in Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) criteria from their annual sustainability assessments. ESG criteria are considered material credit risks for investors interested in investing in companies offering long-term growth and quality dividends.
