The Marine Resource Conservation Project along the Rayong coastline aims to restore ecological richness and balance, ensuring the long-term sustainability of the local marine environment. For the people of Rayong, small-scale coastal fishing is a traditional livelihood closely tied to the province’s abundant coastal resources. In response, GC has designed project activities to address multiple dimensions, supporting both terrestrial and marine biodiversity.

Creating Marine Habitats through Artificial Fish Shelters

This project aims to create coastal marine habitats through the placement of artificial fish shelters to help restore and conserve the biodiversity of marine resources along the coastline of Rayong province. By installing these structures in the sea, the project contributes to enhancing the abundance of aquatic resources and strengthening the marine ecosystem.

In this regard, the project is aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 14: Life Below Water, which emphasizes the conservation, restoration, and sustainable use of marine and ocean resources.

Egg-bearing Female Crabs Bank

An important marine resource for coastal ecosystems and a key source of income for local fishing communities. However, crab populations in the wild have continued to decline due to overfishing, particularly the capture of egg-bearing female crabs, which affects reproduction and disrupts the balance of marine ecosystems.

The project was established to help conserve and restore mud crab resources. The project collects egg-bearing female crabs and nurtures them in suitable conditions until the eggs hatch into larvae, which are then released back into the natural environment. This helps increase the survival rate of juvenile crabs and supports the long-term sustainability of marine resources.

Aquatic Species Release

The initiative aims to restore and enhance the abundance of aquatic resources in natural water sources, thereby supporting the balance of aquatic ecosystems as well as the livelihoods of fishing communities and related sectors. The project focuses on releasing aquatic species that are appropriate to the environmental conditions of each area, enabling them to grow and reproduce sustainably. It also helps foster awareness of natural resource and environmental conservation among communities and society.

Spotted Babylon Conservation

A project focused on the restoration and conservation of Babylon snail resources within marine and coastal ecosystems. It aims to increase Babylon snail populations, maintain ecological balance, promote biodiversity, and foster community awareness and participation in the sustainable use of marine resources.
