Thailand’s first disinfection unit to reduce the risk of COVID-19.
GC Group and the Faculty of Engineering, Mahidol University jointly applied their expertise to develop CoviClear, Thailand’s first disinfection unit that reduces the spread of COVID-19. The disinfection unit was produced using biomedical and engineering knowledge along with high-quality, innovative materials provided by GC Group to produce disinfectants.
The COVID-19 pandemic caught everyone in Thailand off-guard in early 2020.
Thanks to the cooperation of different agencies and the public, Thailand is working to overcoming the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. At the same time, GC was working with its subsidiary, NPC S&E Company Limited, and collaborating with the Faculty of Engineering, Information Technology Management Department at Mahidol University bringing together the proprietary innovations and capabilities of these three organizations to develop CoviClear, Thailand’s first disinfection unit to reduce the risks of contracting COVID-19. CoviClear can play an important role in mitigating the effects of the pandemic which increased in severity in 2020, by helping prevent healthcare and medical staff from being infected as they work tirelessly to help Thais overcome the pandemic.
How CoviClear works
CoviClear, or the silver nanoparticle disinfection unit, uses a state-of-the-art nanotechnology sanitizing spray, which has bioactive silver ions or ‘silver metal’ and a disinfectant liquid that can kill bacterial cell walls and proteins, preventing the disease from replicating. CoviClear’s silver nanoparticle disinfection is effective for 24 hours, proving much needed support for medical personnel and those who visit hospitals.
CoviClear is Thailand’s first disinfection unit that combines engineering and bio-medical knowledge.. CoviClear disinfects by releasing silver nanoparticles through a micron-sized nozzle in the form of a vapor. The vapor pairs the silver nanoparticles with viruses, bacteria, and other diseases that a person carries, including on their clothing, killing them on contact without causing any harm to humans. Additionally, the bioactive silver ion has the ability to stick to the skin and clothing of those who have been disinfected by the CoviClear, killing off gems and reducing any risk of illness. The silver ions dissolve when taking a shower or bath.
GC is supporting the production of CoviClear and providing the raw material innovations from GC Group to produce the required disinfectant liquid:

Triethanolamine (TEA), for which GC is the only manufacturer in Thailand, and which has a special property that allows the nanoparticle ion to attach to people’s clothing and skin providing a protective effect for 24 hours.

Glycerine, which causes the nanoparticle ion to be a suspended solid in the liquid disinfectant without any sedimentation, moisturizing the skin with no irritation.

Support in building CoviClear or the silver nanoparticle disinfection units.
For this project, GC delivered 13 CoviClears and disinfectant liquid containing bioactive silver ions, which can be used up to 10,000 times (with every five liters of liquid added), to hospitals to reduce the spread of the coronavirus.
