On April 10, 2020, Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of Public Health, received a pioneering silver nanoparticle disinfection unit called “CoviClear” to reduce the risk of coronavirus transmission. He was joined by Associate Professor Kesinee Withoonchart, Rector of Thammasat University, Dr. Kongkrapan Intarajang, Chief Executive Officer of GC, Dr. Chaya Chandavasu, Senior Vice President, Sustainability and Corporate Branding of GC, and Mr. Kridsada Prasertsuko, Managing Director of Safety and Environmental Services Limited (NPC S&E), at the Faculty of Medicine, Thammasat University.

GC is providing two types of disinfectant liquid made from raw materials produced by GC Group for use in CoviClear: triethanolamine (TEA), for which GC is the only manufacturer in Thailand, and which has a special property that allows the nanoparticle ion to attach to people’s clothing and skin providing a protective effect for 24 hours; and glycerine, which causes the nanoparticle ion to be a suspended solid in the liquid disinfectant without any sedimentation, moisturizing the skin with no irritation.

CoviClear and the disinfectant liquid are innovations from GC, NPC S&E and Mahidol University’s Faculty of Engineering, who joined together to use their combined knowledge and expertise to tackle the escalating COVID-19 pandemic in Thailand. This innovation aims to reduce the risk of coronavirus transmission to medical personnel who have been working tirelessly and under pressure for the Thai people.
