GC Highlights on Implementing 3Rs and Circular Economy on Waste Management in Asia Pacific

Nowadays various sectors are raising awareness on 3Rs including the United Nations, which estimated the world population to reach 8,5 billion by 2030. This will result in how natural resources and environment might be exploited and might not be sufficient to the next generation. Moreover, the fact that there are over 2 million tons/year of waste and plastics in Thailand reflects how Thais tend to not have enough efficient knowledge on waste management.

Recently, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, Japan’s Ministry of Environment, and the United Nations Center for Regional Development (UNCRD) held the 9th Regional 3R Forum in Asia and Pacific. The forum is in line with the UN’s sustainable development goals in order to encourage the Asia Pacific region, which is the world’s fastest growing urbanized and industrialized region to share ideas and exchange knowledge and experiences in order to betterment the waste management and solve environmental issues through the 3R concept of reduce, reuse, and recycle.

As a leading petrochemical manufacturer for better living, Mrs. Warawan Tippawanich. Senior Vice President - Corporate Affairs and Corporate Secretary of PTT Global Chemical Public Co., Ltd. or GC held a lecture on “Resource Efficiency towards Circular Economy – Case of Thailand”. She stressed on GC’s commitment to adopt the closed-loop plastic circular economy that stresses on increasing resource efficiency, reducing waste, and increasing value chain with innovation and technology into its business, while creating partnerships with all stakeholders from upstream to downstream.

Such concept of 3R has transformed the manufacturing, consuming, and living ways in the Anthropocene age where every human action caused a consequence to the world. Additionally, GC still expands the circular economy into a wider audience in hope to encourage the natural resource efficiency, while causing the least waste through correct and systematic plastic waste management with projects such as Upcycling the Oceans, Thailand (https://www.facebook.com/Upcyclingtheoceansthailand/) that transforms plastic waste into fashion products of T-shirts and backpacks
