GC, P&G Thailand, and Habitat for Humanity Team up to Build Thailand’s First House using Upcycled Materials
GC partnered with P&G Thailand and Habitat for Humanity to build Thailand’s first house made from upcycling materials, giving new life to plastic waste, and highlighting the importance of the upcycling process as part of the Upcycling the Oceans, Thailand initiative. On September 24, 2020, Dr. Chaya Chandavasu, Senior Vice President, Sustainability and Corporate Branding of GC, Mr. Nitin Darbari, General Manager and Vice President of Procter & Gamble Trading (Thailand), and Dr. Kittiphun Khongsawatkiat, Chairman of the Board of Habitat for Humanity, presented the house together to Mr. Prapan Pradabpetch and his family. Dr. Pisarn Srithanessakul, Chief Executive of the Bueng Ka Sam Sub-District Administration Organization witnessed the donation.
“This upcycled house was made from plastic waste consisting of over three tons of HDPE bottles and multi-layered flexible packaging that was collected and separated in the community. GC worked closely together with our partners using our combined expertise and innovations to develop eco-boards and an eco-roof to build this home, and coordinated with Habitat for Humanity to find an eligible family to move in. This project, an important collaboration from different partners who came together with a common purpose, increased social awareness and provided a better understanding of effective plastic waste management,” said Dr. Chaya.
