YOUTURN: Turning plastic waste into valuable products

In efforts to manage plastic waste and properly input them into the recycling process, increasing the value of used materials and decreasing its impact on the environment

A total of 58 tons of used plastic bottles, under the WeCYCLE project, will be converted into upcycled products, including school uniforms made from upcycled fabric woven from used plastic bottles and water hyacinth fibers, to be donated to schools surrounding the WHA Industrial Zone.

Additionally, upcycled "Pan Suk" fabric bags will be distributed to underprivileged patients and vulnerable groups in the vicinity of the WHA Industrial Zone. Upcycled bed sheets with virus-killing properties will also be provided to hospitals located around the WHA Industrial Zone.

Krungthai Bank x GC YOUturn x Ban Koh Phu Community, Krabi Province, organized the “Yaak Dee Mee Tang” activity

Under the "Krungthai Loves Ban Koh Phu Community" project by launching a recycling bank at Ban Koh Phu School, Ban Koh Jam School, and Ban Ting Rai School in Krabi Province. This initiative aims to extend knowledge and promote sustainable practices.

• Provide education regarding the fundamentals of waste management, create informative signage, and donate waste bins for proper waste separation.
• Instill waste management practices from the source to recycle waste for sale, generating income.
• Reduce pollution issues caused by burning and landfilling waste.
• Establish a waste bank management system within schools to ensure continuous operation.
• Expand the initiative to households and communities in the future, working together to create a sustainable and healthy environment for the Ban Koh Phu community.

GC YouTurn X Ichitan

The project, led by Mr. Tan Passakornnatee, the Managing Director, and Ms. Ing Passakornnatee, the Deputy Managing Director of Ichitan Group Public Company Limited, along with the Ichitan team, has taken charge of this initiative.

Over 1,000 kg of plastic bottles were handed over by consumers to the GC YOUturn team for proper recycling processing.

GC YOUturn x TOT, promoting the Loy Krathong event in accordance with environmentally-conscious guidelines.

• Setting up over 12 plastic drop off points throughout the event, 'The Colors of the Water: Loy Krathong Festival 2024' under the theme 'Amazing Night of Lights: Loi Krathong Festival' at Khlong Phadung Krung Kasem (Hua Lamphong area), Bangkok.“
• The event received overwhelming support from tourists, receiving around 41 kilograms of used plastic bottles (PET).

This is in efforts to govern the entrance of used plastic waste, to properly entering the recycling and upcycling system; conserving the environment and beautiful Thai culture of Loy Krathong festival.

AIS and GC announce the success of their mission to empower the new generation with the 'Green University: Ting, Turn, Hai Lok Jum– Upvel 2' project, fostering engagement among students from over 42 universities nationwide in waste management, including both plastic and electronic waste.

Over 1,058,634 pieces of waste were collected within a span of two months through the GC YouTurn initiative for plastic waste and the AIS E-Waste+ application for electronic waste. This year, Naresuan University showcased its commitment to sustainability by collecting the highest amount of both types of waste, successfully claiming the championship.

Additionally, under the 'Green University: Ting, Turn, Hai Lok Jum– Upvel 2' project, engagement with the new generation was further encouraged through the 'Throw, Turn, and Be Stylish: Green U Photo Contest' and the 'Green Creator: Throw, Turn, and Let the World Remember' short video competition. These activities garnered significant interest fr om students, with a total of 79 entries submitted.

The results for the 'Green University: Ting, Turn, Hai Lok Jum– Upvel 2' project are as following:

• The search for Green Universities through the waste collection for the world competition, including electronic waste via the AIS E-Waste+ application and plastic waste through GC YOUturn, took place from August to October. We would like to express our gratitude for the enthusiasm and cooperation from all 42 universities, which successfully collected over 1,058,634 items of electronic and plastic waste for recycling. This effort resulted in a reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by 23.18 tons of CO2 equivalent, which is equivalent to planting 2,462 trees. Naresuan University was awarded the first prize for amassing the most pieces, followed by the first runner-up, Burapha University, with 198,646 pieces collected, and the second runner-up, Nakhon Pathom Rajabhat University, with 139,302 pieces collected.
• Students from Nawaminttarach University received both the Outstanding Creativity Award and the Grand Prize for Popular Vote, in the ‘Ting, Turn Hai The Style Green U’ photography competition
• The 'Green Creator: Ting, Turn, Hai Lok Jum ' short video competition, which was open to both individuals and teams, encouraged participants to create videos on TikTok to raise awareness about plastic and electronic waste disposal for a sustainable world. Over 79 video submissions were received and underwent a rigorous selection process by the AIS, GC, and the Konggreengreen team. This process led to the final selection of 15 teams, who then participated in a workshop to refine and develop their entries for the Final round of the competition:
  • In first place, Khon Kaen University
  • In second place, Chulalongkorn University
  • In third place, King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi.
  • Two honorable mention awards were presented to Prince of Songkla University, Hat Yai Campus, and Rajamangala University of Technology Lanna.

GC YOUturn x AMATA Corporation

• Collaborating to deliver used plastic into the recycling system
• Visiting the Chao Kluk Kha community enterprise, a model community for the Community Waste Hub
• Touring the ENVICCO plastic pellet production facility to study the process of producing recycled plastic pellets, rPET and rHDPE.

OR X GC, in collaboration with the Bang Nam Phueng community, addresses the issue of waste in the Chao Phraya River sustainably through the Bok Ruk Chao Phraya, Bok La Kya Mae Nam' project.

Together, waste from the Chao Phraya River and along its banks was collected, as well as sorted and managed properly through the 'GC YOUturn end-to-end waste management system.' The initiative also promotes knowledge about waste sorting and serves as a model for expansion to other areas, aiming to reduce the amount of waste flowing into the sea sustainably.

• A total of 284.1 kilograms of waste collected
• Of which, 9 kilograms were plastic bottles

Non-recyclable waste will be managed by the Bang Nam Phueng Subdistrict Administrative Organization, while recyclable materials will be processed through GC YOUturn’s recycling and upcycling standards. They will then be used to produce upcycled products, creating further benefits.

Dispose of used plastic bottles with GC YouTurn, to turn them into valuable ‘Reflective Vests' for the Sweepers

MBK, one of YouTurn's partners, has donated 5,100 used plastic bottles, weighing a total of 102 kilograms, to participate in the end-to-end waste management system or YOUturn Platform. This initiative helps transform used plastic bottles into upcycled shiny vests under the 'Separate for the Sweeper' project.
